Over the years I have found that I picked up the best information from various sources. Before I discovered wedding shows I would purchase every wedding magazine I could get my hands on; Wedding Bells, The Knot, Martha Stuwart, the list goes on.
Today I wanted to go over some of the best Canadian resources that I have enjoyed and still enjoy today.
First is my personal favourite; magazines. Wedding Bells is very down to earth, easy to follow and really gets the hype up. Who doesn’t love books? It’s the pintrest before pintrest. I really enjoy getting a new wedding magazine and haven’t missed an issue of Wedding Bells in about 7 years. I would flip through the book the first time and dog tag any page that really stood out to me then go back and read them cover to cover. After I would cut out my favourite images and create a collage. It’s a lot of fun.
Some of my favourite magazines are:
-Wedding Bells
-Today’s Bride
-Bride & Groom Canada
-WedLuxe
As I mentioned before Pintrest! Make a few boards and really start planning your vision for the big day. Who doesn’t love a good pintrest board? Also you get some really great DIY ideas and much more.
Next I find the various Facebook groups for my area really useful. If you’re looking to buy or sell wedding supplies the join the group ‘Wedding Supplies for Sale in Nova Scotia’. You can find anything to do with weddings here. From gowns to chair covers, vases to arches.
If you’re looking more for help to find a service or recommendation for a service in your area the join the group ‘Wedding Resources Halifax, NS’. This is a no hassle page where you get to connect with other bride and grooms in Nova Scotia and get their opinion on various venues and services. I find this page great myself, it lets me connect with other local businesses that are either starting out in the wedding industry or to give advice to couples looking for recommendations. This page covers everything. Venues, bakers, florists, photographers, makeup artists and the list goes on and on.
So here comes the really fun one; Wedding Shows. Get out with a group of friends and hit up a wedding show near you (FYI there is one coming up next month) and network! Meet with the various vendors and put your name in for the various draws and prizes, collect business cards and other information and try samples. It’s always a ball of a time and really gets you excited for your big day. There is always a fashion show with the season’s best formal wear and it’s just so much fun. The most enjoyable way to gather information for your big day.
