I hope everyone had a great summer. I know I sure did what with summer weddings, bachelorette parties and wedding dress shopping. I had the pleasure of helping a couple plan their dream wedding for the past year.to enjoy the fruits of our labour was truly spectacular. I must say here that I cry like a baby at weddings. The sheer joy of seeing two friends take that next step is priceless.
That being said the planning process wasn’t all sunshine and daisies. When we started the planning process a year ago the bride and groom came to me with only one thing they were sure of and that was the date. They had no idea what they wanted other than the specific date. Guess what? That’s okay! When you get engaged the plans don’t just happen. Some couples have their vision in place and know every little detail while others don’t. Both are an adventure and who doesn’t love a good adventure? I got to help them mold what their perfect day would be.
And so we began making appointments and checking out venues and seeing what felt right and this went on for a few months. Nothing that we had looked at felt right; all the venues that we had visited just weren’t personal enough for this couple. One night late in October I received a message from the bride and plans took a sharp turn and what a challenge it was. A stargazing, beach wedding in Nova Scotia with a brunch reception the following morning.
After several phone calls, emails and over 6 months of me pestering various offices all the plans were set; the venue and beach were booked. It was all coming together and I was stoked to see how it all turned out.
I had regular meetings with the bride and groom to go over all the finer details and to check that they were both getting enough self-care.
Well after a few hiccups with wardrobe, family, transportation and the sky it was finally time for this special couple to say their “I do’s”. It was perfect! A big shout out here to Leslie and her husband, of Leslie Estelle Photography, for doing such an amazing job with minimal light and really pulling the mood together. To the Justice of the Peace who was super charismatic and lovely to work with, Betty Thomas.
The reception the following morning was just as perfect as the ceremony. A very lovely brunch reception was held at Ryan Duffy’s steak house in Halifax. The staff was ever so friendly, professional and accommodating. They worked with the bride and grooms budget and designed a perfect menu that was delicious and affordable. After brunch, and the most amazing cake I have ever eaten, there was light dancing. A huge shout out to Katie Frampton of Cup-Kate’s for the most amazing wedding cake ever!
This was an amazing experience and I loved every moment, yes even through the hiccups! Every event is a learning experience for everyone involved. A bit of advice to all couples starting their planning experience: Ask questions, make friends, make memories and HAVE FUN!! I know I sure did and always do.
Happy planning!
